Trends can be very fleeting, especially when summer rolls around. I’ve always prided myself on having a pretty good eye for trends that are sticking around for more than one season. This season, there’s one that totally took me by surprise – the polka dot trend.
Now, it’s a little funny to refer to polka dots as a trend, since they’ve been around for ages. But most fashion trends (including prints) tend to be cyclical. A year or two ago, I might not have dreamed of wearing loud polka dots. Now, I can’t stop.
I’d seen this trend start to pop up on Instagram, but it wasn’t until I visited Paris this summer that I went full-on spots. Everything I bought in Paris had polka dots. Including this adorable Zara dress. I’ve been obsessed with midi-length dresses and skirts for a while, but this dress with its fitted top begged to be added to my closet.
Even since returning from Paris, I haven’t quit with the polka dot trend. In fact, I just bought another dress (this one shorter!) in big black and white polka dots. This trend will likely push into fall, but I’m not sure if it’ll be as big next year. But the good thing is that polka dots are an evergreen trend, meaning they’ll be back at some point in the future. Right now I’m having as much fun with the polka dot trend as I can.
